The Sigma 35mm F1.4 DG II | Art is a full-frame mirrorless prime built around the classic 35mm focal length and a bright f/1.4 maximum aperture. Sigma redesigned the lens around a new 15-element, 12-group optical construction, Dual HLA autofocus and a floating focus system while reducing the Sony E-mount version to 525g.
The result is a lens aimed at photographers and filmmakers who want a high-performance 35mm prime without carrying the size and weight of the previous generation. The lens is available in Sony E-mount and L-Mount; this article covers the Sony E-mount configuration.

Sigma describes the DG II as the strongest optical iteration yet in its 35mm F1.4 Art line. The redesigned construction uses 15 elements in 12 groups, including four aspherical elements and two SLD glass elements, to suppress aberrations and maintain detailed rendering across the frame.
The optical design is especially relevant to photographers working at f/1.4, where a fast prime is expected to deliver both shallow depth of field and strong subject detail. Sigma states that its Art-line standards target high resolution across the frame even at maximum aperture.
A 35mm full-frame angle of view gives a useful balance between environmental context and subject emphasis. It works naturally for street photography, documentary scenes, weddings, travel, lifestyle portraits and video.
The rounded 11-blade diaphragm is designed to retain a rounded shape when stopped down. Sigma also refined aspherical surface accuracy and chromatic-aberration control to support smooth out-of-focus rendering.
The newly developed AAC coating uses a low-refractive-index amorphous layer designed to reduce reflections that can cause ghosting and flare, supporting clear, high-contrast images in difficult lighting.
The Sigma 35mm F1.4 DG II | Art uses a Dual HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) system to drive the focus group with high power and speed. Sigma says the system provides fast, accurate and quiet AF for both stills and video.
The floating focus design supports optical performance across the focusing range while contributing to the lens’s compact construction. Minimum focusing distance is 28cm / 11.1in. with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:5.4.
Sigma optimized the focus-group arrangement and aspherical shapes to significantly suppress focus breathing, minimizing changes in angle of view during focus shifts.
The combination of Dual HLA autofocus, reduced focus breathing, a de-clickable aperture ring and two AFL buttons gives filmmakers and hybrid creators more control during interviews, documentary work, YouTube production and cinematic sequences.

Sigma redesigned the mechanical structure with aluminum, TSC (Thermally Stable Composite) and other precision components. Compared with the previous model, Sigma states that the new lens is approximately 14% shorter and 20% lighter. The Sony E-mount version measures 73.0 × 96.0mm and weighs 525g.
The dedicated aperture ring provides direct exposure control. A click switch lets users turn the aperture clicks on or off, which is useful when smooth exposure changes are required for video.
Two AFL buttons can be assigned to supported camera functions through the camera menu, giving photographers and filmmakers more accessible control points.
The aperture ring lock switch can lock the ring in position A or within its aperture range, helping prevent unintended movement during shooting.
The lens provides dedicated focus-mode control for switching between autofocus and manual focus workflows.
The lens features a dust- and splash-resistant structure and a water- and oil-repellent coating on the frontmost surface. Sigma explicitly notes that the lens is resistant to exposure but not waterproof, so care is still required around heavy water exposure.
The supplied petal-type hood also uses a locking mechanism and is designed to shield the front element from stray light.
